KICK-OFF FOR COASTAL GEORGIA’S SEA TURTLE NESTING SEASON
Nesting season for Georgia's sea turtles officially starts on May 1st. The Turtle Trot is a fundraiser for the Tybee Island Marine Science Center's Sea Turtle Conservation Fund. Our Tybee Sea Turtle Project watches over the island's nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings.
On the pavillion, there will be music and refreshments and inside the science center, you'll meet our resident sea turtle and marine debris ambassador.
After the race, we'll have our ceremonial releasing of a loggerhead sea turtle back to the ocean, right from our beach and next to the pier--with our partners the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.
