Mission Statement
The mission of the Tybee Island Police Department is to strengthen and maintain the social order of the community by providing professional law enforcement services, while remaining within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits.  The Department will provide services which contribute to the preservation of life, the protection of property, and the general safety of the community.  The Department will work to prevent, detect and investigate criminal activity, to recover lost and stolen property, and to apprehend and prosecute suspected offenders.  The Department will further provide community service under non-criminal circumstances such as natural or manmade disasters and medical emergencies.  The Department will actively solicit and encourage the contribution of all citizens to assist in the formulation of activities which accomplish these goals.

General Information:
Any rescheduling of cases must be completed by 4:00 PM one day prior to court date. If any defendant fails to either post a cash bond or appear in court as scheduled that defendant's drivers license is subject to being suspended, or an arrest warrant for Failure to Appear could be issued.
 
When in court, appropriate attire is required.  Persons will not appear in bathing suits or halter tops.  Weapons of any kind, hats, chewing gum, and food/drinks are prohibited in court.  Defendants who do not arrive on time may be held in contempt.  Cell phones, pagers and similar devices that disturb the court will be confiscated.  Young children are not permitted in court. 

Fine Payment:
Traffic fines and local ordinance fines may be paid at the department through the day prior to the court date. We accept cash, money order, credit/debit cards, and cashier's checks.  We do not accept personal checks.  If the fine is not paid beforehand the defendant must appear in court on the time and date shown on the traffic citation or subpoena.
