Human Resources

Mission


The Human Resource Department provides support to all city departments and their employees in the accomplishment of their individual and collective missions. We currently employ approximately 90 full time employees and 15 part time employees. We also employ approximately 65 seasonal employees from March until November each year. This support included workers compensation management, pay and classification, employee relations, policy management and interpretation, oversight of the employee life cycle that includes hiring, evaluating performance, and terminations. Additionally, this department manages benefits that include health, dental, vision, supplemental, accidental and life insurance. Also, HR manages the retirement system that includes deferred compensation and the defined benefit program.

Goals


The goals of the Human Resource Department is to assist in the accomplishment of the City's mission, provide dynamic leadership in all phases of human resource management practices as they relate to all of the City's employees and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements pertaining to human resource management that apply to the City.

Objectives


To promote and recruit the best qualified people and administer policies and procedures fairly, ensuring that respect for each one's individual dignity and worth is maintained regardless of position and that no employee or applicant for employment is discriminated against because of age, race, sex, national origin or physical disability.

To provide free and open channels of communication for employees at all levels and to handle employees' complaints promptly, equitable and consistently.

To provide each employee with competitive wages and benefits, and safe, convenient and pleasant working conditions as possible.

To provide efficient and effective service to all internal and external customers. Assist the City Manager and all department directors in the accomplishment of their missions.

To ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and city laws, regulations, and policies pertaining or related to human resources.

E-Verify


The City of Tybee Island’s E-Verify Identification Number for the Employee Eligibility Verification Program is No. 72007.

The E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification Program (EEV) involves verification checks on the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) databases, using an automated system to verify the employment authorization of all newly hired employees, regardless of citizenship, after completion of the Employment Eligibility Verification From (Form I-9). The City of Tybee Island has been complying with E-Verify since December 2007.
