PUBLIC NOTICE
The City of Tybee Island submitted an application for residential property elevation project funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The project will affect properties impacted by flooding located within the floodplain, several of the properties are considered to be historic. The area affected by this project consists of fourteen (14) potential projects located throughout Tybee Island (Lewis Avenue, South Campbell Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Miller Avenue, Jones Avenue, and Eighth Place, and Eighth Terrace).
Presidential Executive Orders 11988 and 11990 and the National Historic Preservation Act required that all federal actions in or affecting the floodplain or wetlands and historic properties be reviewed for opportunities to relocate, and evaluated for social, economic, historical, environmental, legal and safety considerations. The public is invited to participate in the process of identifying alternatives and analyzing their impacts. Any adverse effects to historic properties as a result of this undertaking will be mitigated.
Interested persons may obtain information about these actions or a specific project by contacting George Shaw, Director of Community Development, by email at gshaw@cityoftybee.org or by calling 912-472-5031. Comments should be received within 30 days of the date of this notice, no later than April 5, 2018.
