TYBEE ISLAND, Georgia (August 31, 2018) - The City of Tybee Island would like to remind all visitors this coming Labor Day weekend to keep safety in mind at all times when enjoying our beaches. We expect typical late Summer weather patterns of mostly sunny skies and periodic afternoon thunder showers with a mild sea breeze. Our Public Safety personnel, including Lifeguards, Fire Fighters and Beach Patrol, will be out in full force all weekend. However, please observe some basic safety tips:
• Stay off the sand bar at all times
• Always swim within 50 feet from shore
• Always swim in guarded areas
• Never swim alone
• Never swim at dawn or dusk
• Be alert for changing weather or water conditions
• Always obey the lifeguards
• Always observe the warning flags located on all lifeguard towers and beach vehicles
• Call 911 for emergencies
Also be aware, this is the jellyfish time of the season. If you get stung, find your nearest lifeguard or go to the Lifeguard Shack at the base of the Pier next to the Marine Science Center for first aid treatment. Don’t hesitate to approach any of our City Public Safety staff for assistance or concerns and enjoy your holiday weekend!
