Halloween on Lewis

Two Halloween Sites on Tybee Island

Tybee Island, Ga. – (October 5, 2018) After two years of being battered by hurricanes and storm surge, the folks who live on Lewis Avenue are finally ready to start hosting Tybee’s annual Lewis Ave Trick-or-Treat again this year. Plans had already been made by the Tybee Island YMCA to host the Trunk-or-Treat event in Memorial Park as well, so there will be two such celebrations this year.

Not all Lewis Avenue residents are fully recovered as yet. Tybee Island police officers canvassed the neighborhood and found most residents are anxious to get this event back to Lewis Avenue this year, while a few are still working on repairs. Celebrants should understand if there are some homes unable to take part yet this year.

Although the City does not directly control or sponsor either of these events, candy donations will again be accepted at City Hall, and distributed in advance of the celebration. Visitors to Lewis Avenue could also consider bringing candy purchases to donate to homes on the street on the night of the event to help! Residents may spend hundreds of dollars to supply treats, and even in good years, any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The Fire and Police Departments will be involved to make sure everyone is safe during these events. Lewis Avenue will be blocked off to traffic. City Hall and Police Dispatch do get a lot of calls regarding this event, so communicating the situation will be helpful to those who want to know!

The YMCA Trunk-or-Treat is scheduled in Memorial Park between 6 and 8PM on Halloween. Lewis Avenue residents ask for people to start at 5:30PM; most trick-or-treaters are gone by 9PM.
