In partnership with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the National Main Street Center, the City of Tybee Island’s Development Authority / Main Street Program focuses on economic development within the context of historic preservation. The Program, which operates within City limits, is structured to grow business, support cultural aspects, and maintain the sense of place through public / private partnerships. It successfully integrates a practical management strategy with physical improvements of buildings and public spaces, promotion and image building, and economic development of the area.
The Development Authority / Main Street Board of Directors meetings are typically held the third Wednesday / month at 6pm in the Auditorium at City Hall. The Board is comprised of seven (7) Council appointed Directors and four (4) Ex-Officio members. The seven Council appointed Directors are representatives that have an economic interest within city limits, one of which is a City Council member, in accordance with the approved Resolution and By-Laws for the Program. Ex-Officio members, approved by a majority of the board of directors, shall represent the business community or non-profit organization, and / or be a full-time resident of Tybee Island. The Program follows a balanced, comprehensive revitalization process in order to successfully adhere to the following for the City of Tybee Island:

To improve the quality of life for those that live, work, and visit Tybee Island and enhance the cultural experience while preserving the community's barrier island heritage.
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Program is to:
- facilitate efforts to revitalize, redevelop, and enhance;
- create a sense of place and improve the quality of life for residents, business owners, and visitors using the Main Street Four Point Approach;
- encourage quality economic growth and development while preserving Tybee Island's unique architectural and community heritage;
- support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine on the Island.

One (1) voting position to fulfill a four-year term as appointed by Mayor and City Council is available to begin January 2019. The candidates must have an economic interest and be a taxpayer within the City of Tybee Island or a taxpayer within Chatham County who owns / operates a business located within city limits.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and resume to the Clerk of Council @ jleviner@cityoftybee.org. City Council will consider applicants for appointments until filled.
