Due to high volumes of traffic expected on Saturday, March 16th, the City of Tybee Island will be implementing special traffic control measures. The map (right click to view the image in more detail) shows where barricades will be placed to control traffic flow and insure emergency vehicle access to the south end of the Island.
Traffic data has shown that on specific weekends, high volumes of traffic come on the island in condensed time periods and create significant public safety issues. To insure access for emergency vehicles to the south end of the island, these special traffic measures are being implemented.
Additionally, we will be implementing these same measures on Saturday, April 20th, Saturday, April 27th, and Thursday, July 4th.
Staging of the barricades will begin on Friday, and they will be put into place on Saturday Morning. Residents will have access to their properties at all times.
The City is hosting a town hall meeting Wednesday, March 13th, at the City Council Chambers in the Burke Day Public Safety Building, 78 Van Horn, from 7pm to 8pm. If you have questions or want to see further details, please plan on attending this meeting, or viewing the broadcast or recording. The meeting will show live on Channel 7 and will be included at various times on our broadcast schedule as well as on our Video-on-Demand channel at https://cityoftybee.viebit.com.
