Due to high volumes of traffic expected on Saturday, March 16th, the City of Tybee Island will be implementing special traffic control measures. The map (right click to view the image in more detail) shows where barricades will be placed to control traffic flow and insure emergency vehicle access to the south end of the Island.
Traffic data has shown that on specific weekends, high volumes of traffic come on the island in condensed time periods and create significant public safety issues. To insure access for emergency vehicles to the south end of the island, these special traffic measures are being implemented.
Additionally, we will be implementing these same measures on Saturday, April 20th, Saturday, April 27th, and Thursday, July 4th.
Staging of the barricades will begin on Friday, and they will be put into place on Saturday Morning. Residents will have access to their properties at all times.
The City hosted a town hall meeting Wednesday, March 13th, at the City Council Chambers in the Burke Day Public Safety Building, 78 Van Horn, from 7pm to 8pm. The meeting was broadcast live, and it is also included in our Comcast Channel 7 public access schedule as well as on our Video-on-Demand channel at https://cityoftybee.viebit.com/player.php?hash=e3Krm5hafjY5.
