BEACH STATUS
As of May 1, the beaches on Tybee Island are open with restrictions noted below.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has extended its administrative order banning the use of these items on the beach until May 6, 2020:
- Chairs
- Tents
- Umbrellas
- Coolers
DNR will continue to patrol the beaches.
BEACH ACCESS
Access is restricted in certain areas. Entry is allowed only at these authorized locations:
- Polk Street
- Gulick Street Vehicle Entrance (The wooden crossover will remain closed)
- 3rd Street
- 19th Street
- Inlet Avenue
- North Beach Center Street
- 6th Street
- 10th Street
- 14 ½
- 15th Street
- Tybrisa
- 17th Street
- 18th Street
- Closed: The 14th Street crossover is under construction and remains closed.
- Closed: The northern most crossover at North Beach remains closed due to Marine Science Center construction.
PARKING
- Strand Avenue lot will be open from 16th Street to 17th Street. The southern part of this lot from 17th Street to 18th Street will remain closed to serve as the staging area for the dune vegetation project.
- North Beach lot will remain closed.
RESTROOMS
Most restrooms will be open.
OTHER AREAS
- Alley 3: Parking and access open. No gathering allowed.
- Fishing Pier: Both pier and restroom are closed.
BEACH RULES
- The ordinary beach rules are applicable: no glass, no disturbance of dunes, no litter, no pets, no motorized vehicles. Please heed “Beach Rules” signs posted at crossover entrances.
- A new smoking ban goes into effect May 1.
- Smoking is prohibited on the beach between 14th Street and 16th Street.
SOCIAL DISTANCING & SAFETY
- The Governor’s Orders require social distancing and no gatherings.
- No groups of more than 10 people.
- Lifeguard season has not started, therefore no lifeguards will be on the beach.
- Violations of any of the rules may result in misdemeanor or ordinance citations.
