The City of Tybee is saddened to confirm that rescue crews have recovered the body of an 18-year-old female swimmer who went missing off the coast of Tybee Island last weekend.The woman was reported missing around 8 p.m. Sunday. Two others swimming with the woman were pulled to safety by a Tybee Island firefighter and a local resident kite boarding in the area.
Following an overnight search the swimmer’s remains were recovered just after 10 a.m. Monday in Tybee’s Back River area. The search included the U.S. Coast Guard, Chatham County Helicopter, Tybee and Savannah Fire Departments, Tybee Marine Rescue Squad, Chatham Marine Squad Tybee Police Department and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
