[ARCHIVED] Tybee Traffic Controls for July 4th

July 4th 2021 (1)

TYBEE ISLAND – The City of Tybee Island will celebrate the Fourth of July with the return of its annual fireworks show. The fireworks will be held July 4, 9:15 PM, at the Tybee Pier & Pavilion, Tybrisa Street and Strand Avenue.

The city will implement traffic controls and detours to increase public safety as thousands of cars enter and exit the island in a short time span.

  • Anyone coming to Tybee Island on July 4th should arrive early. Parking is limited and the city anticipates city parking lots will be full by 9 AM.
  • Coming on to the island, traffic will be limited to one eastbound lane on U.S. 80/First Street/Butler Avenue from the Lazaretto Creek Bridge to 15th Street. The remaining inside eastbound lane will be reserved for emergency vehicles only.
  • After the fireworks show, traffic barricades will funnel departing vehicles to Butler Avenue and Jones Avenue. Police officers will direct traffic at Jones and U.S. 80 in lieu of the traffic lights.
  • Both westbound traffic lanes on U.S. 80 will be open for traffic leaving the island.

Please note that we are experiencing record levels of visitors and traffic on Tybee this summer. Be patient, be aware of traffic detours and follow traffic protocols.

Have a safe and happy holiday.
